February is here and that means it’s time for baseball! Impact staff hit the road this past weekend to the Terry Sanford High School Baseball Jamboree, what a great day of baseball it was. Coach Sam Guy (Head Coach of Terry Sanford) does an unbelievable job each and every year with this event. Find out more about the six teams and their players on our breakdown below.
Daniel Brown – (2020, Campbell Commit) will always have eyes on him when he pitches. The 6’4” Lefty was up to 87 mph, but has recently been up to 92 with the fastball. Not only was he showing an electric fastball, but he showed a good slider as well. Brown did not disappoint at the plate either with 3 homeruns in game 1.
Josh Holloman – (2020, Uncommitted RHP) athletic 6’2”frame was 83-86 mph with the fastball and showed a tight 77mph breaking ball. With this kids’ projectable frame the velocity will only get better.
Chris Gruskin – (2021 Uncommitted RHP) will be another plus arm for Broughton High School. Gruskin was 80-82 mph with his fastball and was 72mph with a plus changeup.
Davis Clemmons – (2020 Randolph Macon Football Commit) can flat run! He will be a problem on the basepath for the opposition this Spring.
Ty Cummings – (2020, Campbell Commit RHP) not only will he hit in the top of the order for Corinth, but the Fighting Camel commit was up to 88 mph with the fastball and showed a 79 mph hard slider.
Matt Kelley – (2020, UNCP Commit) showed great presence on the mound. The right handed arm was up to 85 mph with a 67 mph breaking ball.
Landon Ginn – (2020, East Carolina Commit RHP) may have had the best day of anyone. On the mound Ginn did not throw a pitch under 90 mph and sat 90-92. He would also show a sharp 78 mph slider. At the plate Ginn showed off his power from the left and right side. The future East Carolina Pirate will have many eyes on him this Spring.
Gabe Brewington – (2020, NC A&T Commit RHP) 6’3” 195 lbs athletic frame was up to 84 mph on the mound and showed a good 70 mph spinner.
Tanner Smith – (2020, UNCW Commit) played every position on the field for Corinth Holders. The Seahawk commit showed a very balanced right handed swing and great footwork up the middle.
Nolan McLean – Our latest #1 overall player in the 2020 class did not play due to basketball season still being in session. Nolan was in attendance supporting the Trojans. Nolan looked in shape and ready to go for a big senior season before heading to Oklahoma State! (Pictured above)
Harrison Garner – (2021, Uncommitted RHP) The 6’1 190 pound Junior for Garner was impressive on the bump today. The Right Handed pitcher sat 86-89 in his three innings of work. Garner’s breaking ball, which is more of your typical slider, sat at 77 mph. Harrison is a guy to see as the Spring continues to develop.
Jackson Mitchell – Mitchell is a spark plug for the Trojans! Jackson will be heading to Catawba College at the conclusion of the 2020 season. He’s fun to watch in the middle of the infield for Garner. Effort and intensity is never a question for Mr. Mitchell.
Bryson Galloway – The 2020 Trojans have some arms in their arsenal and Bryson Galloway (2021, Uncommitted RHP) is one. Galloway sat 84-86 with his fastball and showed a 70-72 mph breaking ball.
Three young names for Garner to keep an eye on are: Landon Herndon (2023, Uncommitted Catcher), Lane Herndon (2023, Uncommitted INF/RHP) and Jaxon Lucas (2023, Uncommitted RHP/INF). All three of these young men have bright futures. The Herndon boys are physical kids at such a young age with good baseball IQ, they will be fun to watch for the future. Jaxon Lucas shows some tools that are very intriguing. On the mound Lucas sits 80-81 with clean and easy arm action. Lucas also plays in the middle as well; he has the frame and projectability to stay on the left side of the infield for many years to come.
Jack Cooney – (2020, FTCC Commit Catcher) will be the glue behind the plate this year for Terry Sanford. The sweet swinging lefty showed good balance at the plate but also showed he could settle on the mound too. Cooney was 79-82 mph with the fastball and flashed a 70mph breaking ball all after catching the first few innings.
Cason Puczylowski– (2021, Uncommitted RHP) was fun to watch. Puczylowski was flashing a fastball that was 80-82 mph with a sharp 70 mph 12/6 breaking ball. I look to see Cason to eat up some good innings this year for the Bulldogs.
Ethan Hedgepeth – The 2020 Wake Tech Commit started on the mound for the Hawks on the day. Ethan’s fastball ranged from 77-80 mph with a 68 mph breaking ball. When Hedgepeth is not pitching he will play on the left side of the infield for Triton.
Grayson Bradham – (2020 Uncommitted Catcher) hits in the middle of the lineup for Triton. Grayson is a Right Handed hitter who shows strength in his swing. Bradham is a physical kid that will be a big key to Triton’s success this spring.
Dalen Thompson – Thompson who’s ranked 32 in our latest Impact Baseball rankings for the 2021 class in North Carolina did not suit up for the Hawks. He is coming off a hand injury that occurred during basketball season. Thompson will be the Hawk’s shortstop once he becomes clear.
Hayden Pope – (2022, Uncommitted RHP) is likely going to be one of the Hawks front line starters for the 2020 season. Pope has the frame and projection to make a jump with strength. Pope commands the zone with three pitches.
Connor Hill – (2021, Wake Tech Commit RHP) was fun to watch on this Saturday afternoon. Hill will be a factor for Coach Pilsko’s 2020 club. Hill on the bump was 84-87 with the fastball, as well as showing a 77 mph breaking ball. When Hill doesn’t pitch he will play on the hot corner for the Wildcat’s.
Dillon Partin – (2020, Shenandoah University Commit) starts behind the dish for the Wildcats. Partin showed a good set of receiving skills with pop times between 2.05- 2.10 in between innings.
Baseball is officially underway and our staff can’t wait to get out and see more action around the Carolina’s. Stay tuned for more coverage all Spring from Impact Baseball..
