Voyager vs Northwood Scrimmage

By: Brent Haynes

On Wednesday, Impact went to watch two highly touted teams in North Carolina. The 3A, #4 ranked team, Northwood High School hosted the 1A, #3 ranked, Voyager Academy.

Northwood High School is going to be leaning on the leadership of eight seniors this year and they are led by Davis Palermo(2018, UNC Signee). Palermo got the start on the mound Wednesday and sat 87-90 with the fastball and commanded both sides of the plate with the pitch. Palermo also worked in a breaking ball in the upper 70’s. Max Hundley (2018, Wake Tech Signee) covers a lot of ground in the OF for the Chargers and will also be key piece on the mound this year.

Voyager Academy is a team that is going to be prepared for anything under the leadership of Pete Shankle. The Vikings are going to be led by Aaron Beasley (2018, Duke Signee) on the mound and at the plate. Beasley came on in relief and sat 86-88 with the fastball and showed a breaking ball in the mid 70’s in his two innings of work. Chase Sykes (2018, Brunswick CC Commit) caught my eye Wednesday on the mound. Sykes had a good tempo and commanded the zone with a fastball that sat 83-86 and also showed good feel for the breaking ball in the low 70’s.

Overall it was an outstanding day of baseball on Wednesday evening. Both Northwood and Voyager are going to be teams to follow throughout the year as they are both teams that can make deep playoff runs!
