Impact ID Camp – November 22
November 26, 2020ID Camp Breakdown – February 6
February 9, 2021By: Andy Partin
I had a lot of fun at our first ID Camp of the 2021 season on Saturday at Ting Park in Holly Springs, NC, and we got a chance to see some exciting young prospects. Big thank you to all the players and parents for attending and to our staff for running a smooth camp!
In this article I’m going to break down my opinion of the Top 5 Prospects based off of what I saw at the ID Camp. This is not based off of what I may have seen in the past, strictly what I saw at camp. Also, you’ll find results and more opinions based on several other categories below.
*If you are a talented middle school or high school baseball player, we’d love to see you at our next ID Camp! [Click here for more information]

Top 5 Prospects
1. William Sword, C/RHP, Thales – 2022 Grad (pictured)
What a pleasant surprise William Sword was at the ID Camp! This is a player college coaches can get excited about. He does a lot of things well on the field. I like his combo of pitching and catching best, although he did show workable tools in the infield as well. He was 2.01 on the bag and shows upside with a quicker transfer. He’s got a howitzer for an arm! He was 80 mph from behind the plate and 88 across the infield. On the bump he was 84-86 and flashed a tumbling breakingball in the 74 mph range. Quick bat from right-side and he pulverized balls in BP. He didn’t show a great 60 time (7.62) but that was about all he didn’t show above average in during the workout. Kid is built strong and sturdy.
2. Julio Rivera, OF/LHP, Southview HS – 2022 Grad
I tabbed him “Best Name in Camp” early on and his tools started to back up that big-league name throughout the workout. Body moves well – ran an easy 7.06 sixty with upside through added body strength. Flashed the best outfield arm at camp (50+ players) with an 85 mph show of arm strength and accurate. Sweet left-handed swing with some loft, and present gap-type power. Rivera hopped on the mound and sat an effortless 80 mph from left-side with a 68 mph banger! My guess is he’s a solid, future Mid-Major player with current skills and plenty of upside.
3. Zack Chavis, LHP/OF, Cary HS – 2023 Grad
Long limbs and good angle to the plate from the left-side. He’s got that frame that can add 25 lbs to it and you wouldn’t even notice. Big upside – 2023 graduate showcased a free and easy 77-80 mph fastball with feel for a change-up and a 62 mph curveball that has plenty of future swing-and-misses in it. And don’t ignore this left-handed bat either! Chavis is a prospect coaches need to see.
4. Ben Smith, INF/C, East Chapel Hill HS – 2022 Grad
Big, strong catching prospect that showed a 2.05 POP time during workouts. Smith showed well catching bullpens during the workout. He’s got workable receiving and blocking skills. The bat was impressive from the right-side during on-field BP at Ting Park. He squared up multiple balls with good bat-speed and showed obvious power potential. I think his best upside is behind the plate although he showed serviceable corner infield skills as well.
5. Thomas Barrett, OF, DH Conley HS – 2022 Grad
Good left-handed hitting outfield prospect. Ran a respectable 7.19 60 yard dash (in January) and flashed the second best outfield arm at camp (84 mph). Best present tool in my opinion is the bat. Hit the barrel consistently and sprayed balls around the yard with gap-to-gap power. All tools across the board will improve with added physical strength.
“Just Missed” Top 5
Nathan Galloway, LHP/1B, North Raleigh Christian – 2023 Grad
2023 LHP with a legit 3-pitch mix. Showed command of an 78-80 mph heater and flashed the best curveball at the ID Camp with a 2561 Spin Rate. This is a kid to see for sure!
Daniel Gladden, 1B/RHP, Olentangy Berlin HS – 2022 Grad
Excellent, raw tools! Ran best 60 at camp with a 6.87. Strong, quick-twitched kid. Best hitting exit velo as well at 93 mph. On the mound was 83-84 mph from a low ¾ slot and showed the makings of a good slider at 76 mph.
