We’re lucky enough to sit down and catch up with LSU Assistant Coach & Recruiting Coordinator Nolan Cain. Coach Cain has been on staff with the Tigers since 2014. Find out more about Nolan in the article below.

Trey Daly: You have been around the LSU program for many years as a player and now as a coach. How has that been?
Coach Cain: “LSU is such a special place especially for college athletics. There are no MLB teams in Louisiana and the people down here have a real passion for the sport so we are their “Yankees”. They take it serious and expect us to be in Omaha every year. Those are high expectations, but that is what drives our players, coaching staff, etc. to reach, strive for greatness every single day.”

Trey Daly: When you think about LSU Baseball, what’s one thing that comes to mind?
Coach Cain: “The fans, the history, the tradition, and winning!”

Trey Daly: What’s your most memorable moment while being a player or coach when thinking about about your time at LSU?
Coach Cain: “As a player, I was on our 2009 National Championship team. That was the greatest moment of my life. I wouldn’t have changed anything for it. If you said ‘you could be a 1st rounder or you could win a National Championship’, I would have taken National Champion over that any day.”

Trey Daly: When you’re out watching potential prospects for the Tigers, what’s one thing you look for?
Coach Cain: “Obviously, we are looking for elite talent that can help us win titles. There are a lot of players in every class that can do that. I’m picky, I want the best players, from the best families, that value education, and have a true love for LSU. When I’m at games I watch everything; how you interact with your teammates and coaches, how hard you play the game, do you understand the game, etc.”

Trey Daly: What is one thing you would stress to high school players moving on to the college level?
Coach Cain: “You better be tough, you better understand that the SEC, along with other Power 5 programs, that you are going to fail at a higher clip than you ever have. You better be prepared to deal with that mentally. You better be mentally tough and ready to compete every single day.”

Trey Daly: What’s one thing most people don’t know from the outside about LSU Baseball?
Coach Cain: “We’ve lead the nation in attendance for the last 25 years.”

Trey Daly: Looking back on 2020, where were you when you got the news the season was over?
Coach Cain: “I was on my way to a JUCO game to recruit. I had to turn around and head back home.”
