There is nothing like North Carolina High School baseball in the month of March. Impact was in the house for the first pitch of the 4:00 set, where the sun was shining and it was a fresh 37 degrees with howling winds in Wake Forest, North Carolina. Find out more about the two clubs below:

Heritage High School:

Cole Schiff (2021, UNC-Asheville Commit): Schiff would get the nod on the bump for the Huskies. Schiff is a left handed pitcher who stands around 6’3 and shows clean and easy arm action. The velocity on the fastball was only up to 82 mph on this cold afternoon. Got to give the southpaw credit, not only did he compete for his club but also wore short sleeves (wow). Watching Cole pitch, I can only guess that on a normal baseball weather day his velocity is in the mid 80’s.

Pete Maldonado (2021, Uncommitted): If you have ever watched any type of baseball game, you know the catching position is very important! Heritage High School has a good one back there in Mr. Maldonado. He runs the show for the Huskies and does a great job back behind the dish of handling the arms. Watching Maldonado catch, you can tell he really has spent time developing his craft and ability to handle all types of pitches around the zone. If you are looking for a catcher that can really receive, this is your guy! At the dish Maldonado starts with a slightly opened stance that has a little leg kick once the pitch is thrown. He has a knack for knowing the zone at the dish and behind the plate, very disciplined player.

Chris Katz (2021, Wake Forest Commit): This guy is a hitter! He’s a huge part of the success for the 2020 Huskies with the stick. Strong, physical guy with juice to all fields. On the afternoon, Katz would have three extra base hits, including a mammoth homerun into the wind. You talk about impressive! Katz played third base for the Heritage club on the afternoon.

Tristen Cockman (2020, Wake Tech Signee): I really like the upside to this young man. One of the main reasons is the long arm 6’7 frame Cockman has! As a hitter, the guy is right on you when the pitch is delivered. His fastball would sit between 80-82 mph on the afternoon with a 67 mph slider. With some strength on this frame in the near future, this guy will be fun to watch.

Jack Boyles (2021, Uncommitted): Boyles would play shortstop for the Huskies and this guy has an idea how to play the game. When watching Boyles in the middle of the infield, you see he works everything with his glove from the ground up. This is what you love to see looking for an infielder that can play at the next level. In the box, Boyles bats from the right side and would have a few hits on the afternoon. This kid is athletic and knows the game, fun kid to watch!

Green Level:

Bryce Friedlander (2022, Uncommitted): Friedlander would start on the bump for the Gators and would keep the Heritage crew at bay for the first few innings. Bryce is a huge piece to the puzzle with the 2020 Green Level club. Green Level is a new High School with just freshman and sophomores in their school, which opened this year. Bryce is a strong kid and plays the hot corner when he is not pitching. This will be a name to watch as he continues through the Gators program.

Elias Walsh (2022, Uncommitted): Walsh would play shortstop for the Gators and hit in the middle of the order. This guy looks the part in the box and in the middle of the diamond. Walsh would make every play defensively on the afternoon, showing nice instincts and balanced approach at the plate.
