February 26, 2021By: Trey Daly
The new year brings new opportunities on the baseball field. This past Saturday, Impact Staff headed down to Marion, North Carolina; the home of Big League Camp. It was a great day of baseball. Check out the break down below:
*If you are a talented middle school or high school baseball player, we’d love to see you at our next ID Camp! [Click here for more information]
*College Coaches/Professional Scouts: If you have any questions or need any information on any of these players, please contact us!
Top 5 Prospects:
1. Bryant Whitlock, C/INF, Union County HS (SC) – 2023 Grad
Whitlock had a great day on Saturday! You can tell he’s an asset to every team he plays on – he is solid in every aspect. However, I really liked him in the box. The left handed hitter showed a short compact swing with the ability to hit to all fields. He’s only a sophomore, but a guy to keep an eye on for the future.
2. Logan Murphy, RHP, Weddington HS (NC) – 2022 Grad
There is a lot to like with Mr. Murphy. The tall wiry right hander has some projection and also threw three pitches for strikes. I’m excited to follow this young man as the spring develops and the weather starts to warm up.
3. Colby Humphries, C/OF/RHP, Crest HS (NC) – 2022 Grad
When I hear the name Colby Humphries, I think of the ultimate utility player! He did it all on Saturday and showed well at multiple positions. Behind the dish, he flashed a 1.96 pop time and really showed the ability to handle the baseball. Humphries in BP was impressive as well, showing strength in his swing and the ability to hit to all fields.
4. Micah Hill, LHP/1B, Polk County HS (NC) – 2022 Grad
Hill has made strides since 2020, and it showed on Saturday. The southpaw would fill up in the zone during bullpens. Hill has gotten stronger over the winter and it showed up during the workout in nearly every aspect of his game.
5. Brayden Leonard, INF, Faith Christian (NC) – 2021 Grad
Leonard showed well on Saturday. I really liked the actions in the middle of the diamond; you can tell he has played there for a while. In the box, he showed a good balance swing hitting the ball where it was pitched.
“Just Missed” Top 5:
David Valerioti, INF, Homeschool (NC) – 2022 Grad
Valerioti caught my eye in BP. The 6’2 RHH showed a very good swing in the box; not trying to do too much and spraying balls all over the field. Keep an eye on Mr. Valerioti, his better days are ahead in the game!
