Heritage vs Green Level
March 8, 2020Uwharrie Charter vs Albemarle
March 11, 2020By: Andy Partin
We were back in action Sunday hosting our second IMPACT ID Camp of the 2020 season at North Davidson high school. Coach Matthew Griffin had the field looking sweet and all striped up for our crew! Big thank you to Coach G and a another big thank you to all the players and parents for attending.
Our ID Camps have been a big hit with college coaches. We’ve been flooded with player information requests from college coaches at all different levels. I’ve said it many times, if you are a good player and you are not getting recruited it’s likely because college coaches just don’t know who you are yet. Attending one or more of our ID Camps is a sure-fire way to be evaluated by people who can help you start the recruiting process. If you can play – we can help you.
Like always, in this article I’m going to break down my opinion of the Top 5 Prospects based off of what I saw at the ID Camp. This is not based off of what I may have seen in the past, strictly what I saw at camp. Also, you’ll find results and more opinions based on several other categories below.
*If you are a talented middle school or high school baseball player, we’d love to see you at our next ID Camp! [Click here for more information]
*College Coaches/Professional Scouts: If you have any questions or need any information on any of these players, please contact us!
Top 5 Prospects
1. Kaden Swaim, C, R/R, Oak Grove HS – 2021 Grad (pictured)
You don’t see many catchers throwing down-hill to 2B, but that was one of the things that jumped out at me watching Smaim work out at camp. Strong, sturdy frame (6-1/195) with a hose behind the dish. Produced sub-2.0 pop times and flashed some thunder in the pole during BP to the pull-side. Worked around balls mostly in BP but stayed through a few that showed good carry to left-center. His tools add up to be a good college catcher. Definite guy to watch over the new few months for college coaches.
2. Gavin Sentell, INF, L/R, Ledford HS – 2021 Grad
Exciting 2021 prospect! Sentell really stood out during fungos at SS. Smooth operator in the infield with soft hands and enough arm to stay on left-side in college but may be better suited at 2B. Perhaps more impressive was Sentell’s BP from the left-side. Seemed to find the barrel on every swing and sprayed line-drives all over the field. Needs to add on to a slightly undersized frame (5-9/145) and chop down his sixty (7.21) a hair but plenty to like about this 2021 graduate!
3. Taylor Grubbs, INF/RHP, R/R, Southeast Guilford HS – 2022 Grad
6-0/160 but looks bigger when you stand next to him. Lots to like about Grubbs. Good infield defender with plenty of arm for a 2022 graduate (84 mph across infield). Showcased gap-type power in BP with more to come as he continues to add size and strength. Ran an easy 7.15 sixty and flashed on-the-mound tools as well sitting 80-82 mph with the makings of a very workable breakingball. And if I was passing out a “best hair” award Grubbs would have been named the winner as well! #GoodFlow
4. Lucas Glover, RHP/OF, R/R, Ledford HS – 2022 Grad
It’s easy to dream on the 6-5/170 frame Glover brings to the table. He doesn’t quite maximize his 6-5 height advantage on the mound as he sits back on his right-leg and performs more of a drop-and-drive delivery. Topped out at 81 mph in the bullpen with clearly more in the tank and his continues to physically develop. Mixed in a 70 mph breakingball that was tabbed “best at camp” and showed overall good command of the zone. Lot’s of upside for Glover as a long limbed 2022 graduate!
5. Cuyler Baxter, INF, S/R, Greensboro Day School – 2024 Grad
Baxter is another talented 8th grader we’ve seen at our spring ID Camps. Switch-hitter who showed a little faster bat from the left-side and a little more knack for finding the barrel but both sides certainly play at the moment. For me, he projects to be one of the better hitters from the 30 players we had at camp. 5-9/150 and athletic with good infield skills. Soft hands and he threw 75 mph across the infield, which to me is a good middle school infield arm. Keep an eye on this young prospect!
“Just Missed” Top 5
Nathan Kidder, C, R/R, Oak Grove HS – 2021 Grad
Showed a very good arm behind the dish and flashed a 1.99 pop time. Sub-2.0 now and will easily increase that time staying lower towards 2B on throws instead of becoming so vertical on release. Best exit velo at camp with 89 mph.

Last thing – Everybody wants to be a better hitter, but to me not enough serious players are using the data and analytics they can get easily from a Blast Motion Baseball Swing Analyzer. This thing is easy to use and not expensive for what you get out of it. You can use it on any bat and use it during tee work, front toss, batting practice and in a game.
