Field: Oak Ridge Military Academy
Game 1
Dirtbags Punch Out
Michael Griffin (2023 Apex Friendship RHP) has firm FB for his age. Above average mechanics that will play well once he gets stronger. Should see a velo jump in a year or two. Filled the zone, attacked hitters with fastball and CB.
Brady Groves (2023 Franklinton HS OF) really swung it well today. By my count he had 5 hits. 2 2Bs and a HR. Short swing, big for his age. Power tool should continue to develop more. Was really aggressive on FBs in the zone looked like he had a solid approach up there. Ran the bases hard as well. Someone to watch out for in the next couple years.
Game 2
Dirtbags Punch Out
Luke Stevenson (2023 Wake Forest Catcher) is a plus defender for his age. Plus arm. Really liked what I saw defensively. Handled the game really well and had good body language behind the dish all day. Good teammate. Good approach at the plate had really good team ABs.
Dirtbags 15U Select
Edwin Allen (2024 Cardinal Gibbons OF) is a solid leadoff bat. Above average bat speed for his age. Was aggressive in the zone. Ran hard on the basepaths and played a varsity level CF. Would like to see him lengthen his arm from the OF and get stronger and he will be making noise in a few years.
Game 3
Dirtbag 15U Select
Cooper Minnex (2024 Vinton HS OF) has short aggressive swing. Hit the ball hard every time I saw him swing. Another kid who has the chance to make noise if he gets bigger and stronger. Good arm from the OF.
Dirtbags 15U Futures
Peter Magras (2024 Homeschool OF) was another leadoff guy who impressed today. Aggressive approach looking to put ball hard in play. Ran bases really well and showed off his run tool. Good teammate
Field: Burlington Royals
Game 1:
Dirtbags Encore vs Dirtbags Signature
A pair of 2023 ACC commits in Jaxon Lucas (NC State) and Ethan Gibson (Virginia Tech) were both impressive early in the day, as they dueled with an equal mixture of mid 80’s fastballs, and effective off speed. Uncommitted 23 grad Bennett Rich flashed an upper 80 mph fastball often, and uses his size to attack hitters with a heavy ball. Jaxon Little also stayed in the mid 80s but had a sweeping swing and miss breaking ball all outing.
Game 2:
Dirtbags Skrap Pak vs Dirtbags Prospects
Skrap Pak sent out 2021 Maryland commit Noah Mrotek also flashed a low to mid 90’s fastball today. Big physical righty with good feel for his arm side. Dirtbags Prospects countered with Bryson Sweatt and Talor Grubbs, both were mid 80’s RHP with projectability.
Game 3:
Dirtbags TapOut vs Dirtbags Encore
TapOut sent out two imrpessive RHP on the afternoon. One being Andrew Shaffner led the way zipping through his outing running a FB up to 92 and a tight slider at 77. Tall, lanky frame with loose arm action. High 3/4 slot allows for good whip. Tom Echols was also impressive with his fastball up to 87 mph. Ditbag Encore sent out 2023 Ashton Bettendorf was up to 86 and dropped a 77 mph hammer for strikes.
Game 4:
Dirtbags TapOut vs Dirtbags Skrap Pak
Pitching was the story of the nightcap. Dirtbags TapOut Southpaw Kyle Percival (Wake Forest Commit) was filling up the zone through four innings with his fastball up to 86 mph. Percival has a good three pitch mix. Dirtbags Skrap Pak sent out 2021 flame thrower Tyler Dean (Virginia Tech Commit), Dean’s fastball was up to 94 mph.
Field: Swepsonville
Game 1:
Tidewater Titans
#1 K’Maugh Carr – OF/RHH 2021
Good size with a strong athletic build, player shows raw quick twitch tools at the plate. Extends hands well with pitches on the outer half, showed when he barreled a RBI double to right center early in game. Lots of room to build upon raw ability that plays up with his aggressive play, made a plus diving catch after some covering in ground in CF.
#13 Misael Garcia – INF 2022 Showed good defensive feel for position with an average but accurate arm. Covers the whole zone at the plate with some sneaky pull side pop. During today’s game he roped a 2 RBI double down the left field line.
Dirtbags 17U TAPOUT :
#51 Josh Foulks 1B/Util. ( 2022 NW Guilford , Uncommitted)
Foulks has tall lean projectable size that will allow for his current ability to improve quickly as he gets stronger. His swing was simple and in the zone, very under control for a young tall player, including much more power in the tank. Today he had a monster 3 hit outing that included a no doubt home run down the left field line.
#41 Carter Boyd (RHP/INF Reagan HS , Arkansas Commit)
Boyd plays really controlled and smooth, for that reason the game looks to slow down for him at a young age. He recorded 2 doubles today that included 3 RBIs, one of the doubles coming in a negative count on a tough pitch. The barrel is in the zone for a long time and covers both sides of the plate well.
Game #2 –
Dirtbags All Black
#31 Clay Clatterbaugh RHP( 2021 Radford Commit )
Clatterbaugh displayed a smooth athletic delivery his entire outing, with good timing cues for a high school arm. The arm works effortlessly with the lower half allowing for good late arm speed. Today his FB had late life at 85-87 and topped out at 90. He commanded both sides of the plate while mixing in a solid breaking ball in the low-mid 70s. The hitters were kept off balance and over powered up in the zone late in counts for a dominant overall outing.
#23 Dalen Thompson MIF (2021 Campbell Commit)
– Thompson a pure athlete on both sides of the ball plays a smooth infield including quick hands and a loose accurate arm. Thompson works the count well at the plate and is a threat to run every time on base. He added a clutch RBI double to right center late in the game. Thompson has tremendous upside and has a great base to build on.
Dirtbags 17U Checkmate
#27 Peyton Starkey (2022 INF/RHP , Gray Collegiate Academy, Uncommitted)
Despite being slightly undersized on the mound, when in the zone Starkey kept batters off balance throughout his outing limiting hard hits and timely strikeouts. Coming from a lower slot 3/4 slot his FB stayed 80-83 with good arm side run in the bottom half of the zone. Also showed control for a sweeping breaking ball for a strike out pitch at 68-71.
#45 Colby Humphries (C/RHP Crest HS 2023 , Uncommitted)
Humphries has a strong projectable frame and moves well behind the dish, while also showcasing a strong arm. At the plate there is a lot of pop waiting to be unleashed and worked deep counts throughout the game including a walk and an RBI 1B single. Very dangerous in the box when balanced, generates a lot of bat speed.
Game #3
Dirtbags All Blacks
#43 Colbie Howell RHP/ (2021 Fuquay Varina HS, Uncommitted)
Howell came in and shut this game down with multiple strikeouts showcasing good natural stuff. Howell a lean and tall athletic kid that moves well with controlled aggression on the mound. He sat 84-87 with late pick up on the fast ball dominating upper half off the zone showing good arm speed producing late whip. He coupled the FB with a 72-76 mph curveball that had good shape with room to grow, but did show feel for the pitch in zone. Tremendous amount of upside for Howell in coming years and is just getting started.
#9 Ryan McCrystal C/RHP/LHH (2021, ECU Commit)
McCrystal caught a good game behind the plate receiving pitches well on both sides of the plate and showing off a plus arm including throwing a runner out at 2nd. He is a strong athletic kid that plays the game hard and enjoys it. Also showed some impressive pull side pop on a towering home run into the right field tree line.
Game #4
Dirtbags Signature
#9 Antwan Walton RHP (2021, Greensville HS, Old Dominion Commit)
Walton is a long, lanky arm that still moves efficiently with a ton of potential going forward. He overpowered batters with a effortless downhill FB sitting 86-90 and topping at 91. The secondary pitches and control is still raw but only going up. When he trusted his curveball it had tight spin at 73-76.
#0 Cam Johnson (OF) (2023 Uncommitted)
Johnson made up for size with heart, speed and aggressive play. Playing perfectly into a traditional lead off role working deep counts every AB leading to a BB and HBP, when on base he was a consistent threat stealing multiple bags and scoring twice in game.
Dirtbags 17U Prospects
#2 Reid Withers INF/RHP (2022 West Forsyth, Uncommitted)
Withers played a smooth MIF with a solid arm and good range in the hole, as well as good quick hands on transfer. At the plate his swing was quick and flat with plus bat speed. In today’s game he barreled a double in the left center gap. Lot of tools to build on, including good speed on base paths.
#11 Cole Watkins RHP (2022 Rose HS , Uncommitted)
Watkins came out in relief sitting (82-85) with good natural run consistent in the zone. His delivery was athletic and aggressive with good intent on all pitches. He showed good zone feel for the breaking ball sitting mid-70s with good tight shape. Big upside to consistently get better with strength and velocity.
