Interview with Dallas Baptist Pitching Coach Micah Posey

Today we travel to the big state of Texas to sit down with Dallas Baptist Pitching Coach Micah Posey. Coach Posey has been a very successful pitching coach at the Division I level all over the country. Check out today’s article below.

Trey: How has the first year been at Dallas Baptist?

Micah: Like most seasons has had its ups and downs. We lost some games due to covid towards the middle of our season but had a good finish to the season winning the conference.

Trey: What’s the one constant you have learned about pitching from your stops at Elon to now Dallas Baptist?

Micah: A good changeup is hard to hit. Guys who have quality changeups and fastball command get a lot of outs in college baseball. The ability to throw a changeup in any count is very affective.

Trey: What’s the biggest difference in moving conferences as far as recruiting?

Micah: Hard to say conferences but as far as schools some have more financial assistance in terms of academic money. Some are harder to get into academically.  Some schools are more committed to baseball and I believe recruits see that.

Trey: When you’re out watching future recruits, what’s one thing you look for?

Micah: Does he compete, body language, how he interacts with teammates, does he love the game. From a pitching standpoint does he throw strikes and does he have an out pitch. How do hitters react to his stuff? Does he get swing and miss in the zone or does he get hitters to chase.

Trey: What’s the biggest difference from North Carolina to Texas?

Micah: Texas is a lot flatter. Think the biggest difference personally is how spread out it is. Everything is Dallas seems like a 15-20 minute drive. In North Carolina I feel like I could get from 1 college campus to the next in 15-20 minutes.

Trey: Taking us back to 2020, where were you when you heard the season was canceled?

Micah: We were driving on the bus to UNC Wilmington and got about half way there before game was cancelled. Later found out all of college baseball ended up being cancelled.

Trey: To all the baseball players out there reading this article.. What’s one piece of advice you would give them?

Micah: For pitchers I would say dominate one side of the plate with your fastball. Learn to pitch inside and work daily on your changeup. Try and have the best changeup possible. Most guys don’t neglect the breaking ball but will the CH. spend 3-5 minutes a day throwing the CH. when you throw balls into bucket throw CH. Hitters I would say learn your 2 strike approach and have one. Also Can you hit a low liner up the middle with RISP? I’d work that daily.

Trey: If you had one day off from baseball, what would you do?

Micah: Probably take the family to the beach. If the fall maybe a good deer hunt.
