Hunter: What are your expectations for this year?
Jaxon: This year my main expectation is to the the best teammate I can possibly be. I want to have fun, but at the same time have me and my teammates handling our business. Being a leader on a high school baseball team like mine means a lot and hopefully me and the boys will make a run in the playoffs.
Hunter: What have you done to prepare for the season during Covid?
Jaxon: Preparing for this season has taken lots of patience. With last year’s season ending early and then this year starting later, me and my teammates were eager for a baseball game. Now that it’s finally here we are excited and thankful that we can get back on the field. I have prepared for this season by handling my business at home and in the weight room. To become a college athlete, there’s lots of hard work and dedication needed in order to perform at a high level on the field.
Hunter: How are practices different with all the protocols?
Jaxon: Protocols such as wearing masks and social distancing has been tough. We are doing the best we can to meet these requirements and keep everyone safe. Running and conditioning has kind of been limited at practices sometimes because of people having trouble breathing through the masks. Hopefully sometime soon everything will be back to normal and we will play baseball the way we used to.
Hunter: What are you most excited for in the upcoming season?
Jaxon: In the upcoming season I am most excited to go to war with my team. The bond me and my teammates have is incredible and I’m ready to win games with them. What I’m also ready for is to show people how hard I have been working on my game and my strength.
Hunter: What’s ONE word that can describe your team?
Jaxon: A word that can really define my team is determined. No matter win or lose we fight to the end and play to our best abilities. Right now at 2-2 we look to limit our losses in conference play, and advance to the 4A playoffs. Having a determined and hard working team can really help us reach the goal of making the playoffs.
Hunter: What is your favorites thing about school ball?
Jaxon: One of my favorite moments of high school ball comes from my plate appearances. At the plate it’s all mental, you’re in a fight against the pitcher and you want to come out on top by finding a way to get on base. Another moment I really enjoy is being on the mound…. I have to out-think hitters and find a way to get the batter out with a combination of different pitches and locations. As a Sophomore, playing such good competition in our strong conference will only make me a better player and will help me learn from my mistakes going forward.
