The regular season is just around the corner and teams in North Carolina are trying to get the finishing touches in before the big day! Tonight, Impact Staff headed over to Bunn High School as they were hosting Kerr Vance Academy in a scrimmage game.

Kerr Vance Academy is a dangerous club. It all starts at the top of the lineup with Colby Wilkerson (2020, UNC Signee) who leads off for the Spartans. Wilkerson, a switch hitting shortstop, would also pitch on the night for Kerr Vance. On the bump he sat 84-86 with his fastball and showed a 70 mph breaking ball. Behind Wilkerson in the lineup is RJ Johnson (2021, Appalachian State Commit), the quick twitch left handed hitter is a threat to score anytime he gets on with his speed.

Michael Holtzman (2021, Uncommitted) would start on the bump tonight for the Spartans. I really like the upside of the 6’4 170 pound Holtzman! Holtzman would sit 80-84 on the night with a 71 mph breaking pitch. Holtzman is a long wirey right handed pitcher with easy & loose arm action. His best days are in front of him when strength gets added to his frame.

Tom Echols (2022, Uncommitted) also pitched on the night for Kerr Vance. The first thing I noticed about Echols was how much stronger he looks from last year. Echols showed a good arm on the bump touching 85 mph on the cold brisky night.

Two players stood out to me on the Bunn High School 2020 roster. Leadoff man Colton Holbrook (2022, Uncommitted), who bats from the left side. The Sophomore outfielder is a spark plug for the Wildcats! Bunn’s First Baseman DJ Daniels (2020, Uncommitted) is an intriguing prospect. Daniels is a right handed hitter that shows bat speed and has a physical frame at the dish.

At the top of the 7th inning mother nature decided it had seen enough baseball on this February night and it began to sleet. That was all she wrote for me. As I ran to my car, I thought to myself baseball is officially here in the Carolina’s.
