Nothing quite says North Carolina High School baseball like Guy Smith Stadium in Greenville, North Carolina. We traveled down to check out Greenville Rose and New Bern in their opening conference match-up of the year. Find out more about the two clubs below:

Greenville Rose:

Michael Allen (2022, Uncommitted): It all starts at the top with Mr. Allen. He’s a star for the Rampants with the pigskin, as well as the baseball. I can see why many college programs are after this young man after last night. At the dish, he would start the game off with a double just inside the third base line and put Rose on the scoreboard quickly. Allen, who plays centerfield for the Rampants, is fun to watch. He’s a very athletic kid with tools. It will fun to see where Allen lands at the next level.

Ryker Galaska (2021, Uncommitted): The left handed hitter has the hit tool in the middle of the Rampant’s lineup. On the day, Ryker would spray balls all over the yard! Going opposite field his first at bat, pull side single his second at bat, deep shot to centerfield and intentional walk his fourth AB. Galaska starts behind the dish for the 2020 Rampant club, but his bat is what’s going to carry him onto the next level. Everyone loves someone that can hit, so look no further than Ryker Galaska.

Matthew Wacker (2020, Uncommitted): The unsigned Senior was fun to watch compete against the Bears on Tuesday night. Wacker would pitch 6 2/3 innings earning the win for the Rampants. The Senior standing at 6’1 160 pounds filled up the zone all night long. His fastball sat between 80-84 mph and showed good feel for the 68-71 mph breaking pitch. Wacker would also show a change-up that sat around 73 mph. Wacker, a very high academic student, has some upside and projection! He showed loose and whippy arm action that will continue to develop once he grows into the wiry frame.

Wade Jarman (2021, Uncommitted): Legendary Coach Ronald Vincent did not mess around after getting Wacker out of the game. He went straight to Wade Jarman! Jarman (who starts at QB for the Rampant football team) has arm strength, and would throw heaters to end the game. Jarman’s top fastball would reach 85 mph during his one batter outing. Jarman will be a name to watch in the next two years as the arm strength will continue to develop throwing the pigskin in the fall.

Danny Sadler (2021, Uncommitted): Sadler would start in left field for the Rampants. Don’t let Sadler get on base, as he’s a nightmare on the path. He is a quick twitch right handed hitter who can really run. Sadler would swipe a couple bags on the afternoon with ease. Sadler bats in the nine hole for Rose, I personally love this move because he sets the tone for the top of the dangerous Rose lineup.

New Bern:

Declan Champey (2020, Mercer Signee): The Senior can flat out pitch! He would move his pitches all over the zone with very good command of all three pitches. This guy is a strike throwing machine. The future Bears of Mercer have got a good one coming in with Mr. Champey. Declan fastball would reach 89 mph in the first inning but settled in from 85-88 on the afternoon. He would also show good feel for the 78-80 mph change up as well as the 72 mph breaking ball. We saw Champey as a sophomore at Guy Smith back in 2018 and boy has he made some jumps, this will be and exciting follow at the next level. I have a good feeling that the Bears are going to be very successful on Tuesday nights with Champey toeing the rubber.

Blake Hinson (2021, Uncommitted): Is a spark plug for the New Bern Bears. The left handed hitting two hole hitter for the Bears is a fast athlete! Hinson roams centerfield and can roll out there tracking down fly balls. The Junior would make an unbelievable play on Ryker Galaska screaming line drive over his shoulder.

Andrew Hopkinson (2021, Uncommitted): Watching Hopkinson take ground ball during I/O at the hot corner for the Bears, you can tell the Junior has an idea. He has some life behind the baseball with his throws across the diamond.

Another great day of North Carolina High School baseball has come to a close. While walking out of the prestigious Guy Smith Stadium, I thought to myself, “now I understand why Coach Ronald Vincent is the all time winningest coach in North Carolina.” His teams don’t make mistakes and they just love to play the game.
