February 10, 2022Middle School I.D. Camp Breakdown – November 20
By: Andy Partin
I had a lot of fun at our Middle School ID Camp at Southern Alamance high school this weekend. Big thank you to all the players and parents for attending and to our staff for running a smooth camp! And a big shout out to head coach Jason Smith for allowing us to use his beautiful facility!
In this article I’m going to break down my opinion of the Top 5 Prospects based off of what I saw at the ID Camp. This is not based off of what I may have seen in the past, strictly what I saw at camp. Also, you’ll find results and more opinions based on several other categories below.
Note: We had 21 total players attend this Middle School ID Camp. Obviously the 2026 grads are going to “stick out” more based on present strength and physical maturity more so than the 2028 and 2027 grads in attendance.
Top 5 Prospects
1. Will Holden, C/OF/RHP, 2026 Grad
Well… If there was ever any “easy” pick for who the top prospect was in camp it was this one – and that person is Mr. Will Holden. In fact, he’s got to be one of the top 2026 prospects in the USA. Holden has an absolute howitzer for a right-arm! It’s arm strength that makes your jaw drop for an 8th grader. He’s a catcher with present skills and athleticism. His frame is wiry and loose with projection. Next to arm strength his best tool is the bat. From the right-side he lets it fly and the ball jumps off his barrel. Holden hopped on the mound at the end of camp and pumped 80 mph heaters and the makings of some workable secondary pitches. He ran an 8.09 sixty which may be the only chink in his armor at this point, but I’m going to imagine he plays much faster than that in game action. Write this name down boys and girls… WILL HOLDEN has got the goods!
2. Cooper Partin, 1B/RHP, 2027 Grad
6-0/180 lbs 13 year olds don’t grow on trees but that’s where this 2027 grad will be hitting balls in years to come. Impressive bat to ball skills. Took the best round of on-field BP during camp driving balls to the middle of field. Showed loose arm action on defense with carry on his throws. Will be fun to follow this 7th grader for the next several years!
3. Easton Tillman, LHP/OF, 2026 Grad
Good, young athlete! Quick-armed southpaw that sat 73-75 mph in the pen with feel for the zone. Flashed a mid-60’s breakingball with good spin and two-plane break. Ran a 7.78 sixty and showcased a short-quick stroke from the left-side with 77 mph exit velocity. Definitely a 2026 prospect to be excited about moving forward!
4. Jordan Bonner, OF, 2026 Grad
Physically impressive athlete! Ran a camp best 7.40 sixty (which is floating for a 2026 grad!). Bonner took one of the more impressive rounds of BP at camp. He’s got present bat-speed with future power potential. Balls were jumping off his bat at 82 mph exit velo. Arm strength will continue to improve with reps.
5. Princeton Janney, OF/RHP, 2026 Grad
Ran an impressive 7.52 sixty to kick things off at camp. Left-handed hitter took some quality BP flashing lots of hard contact. The power will come but you can see he’s got the present offensive skills. Low-70’s heaters during his bullpen and filled up the zone. Secondary stuff is workable now but breakingball needs to be tightened up.
(Tie) 5. Diego Tagliaferro, C/INF, 2026 Grad
Versatile 2026 graduate. Best current tool is the bat in my opinion. Nice left-handed swing and showed ability to spray balls around the field with authority – better than anyone else at camp. Not many “miss-hit” balls during beeps – Lots of barrels! Showed 2.38-2.41 POP times and accurate and also showcased ability to handle the infield. Good hands and the arm showed better from the infield in my opinion. Added strength and physical maturity will take game to the next level – skills are there!
